Four Aces

Four Aces A late night Ken and Denny brain storming session came up with the idea to build four versions of Honda's brand new model the American Classic Edition, or ACE. The ACE was a big hit for Honda when it was introduced. We wanted to show the motorcycling world that there are many different ways to customize a metric bike. This diverse collection of four customs, all built on the same platform demonstrated what could be done with these machines. So Denny Berg set out to build one model of bike, but giving them four different looks. At first we were not completely sure just how the bikes would end up, like all with the same color pallet. That came later, but the basic style of each and what Denny was going to do happened pretty quickly. Playing off the model name "ACE", we named the project Four ACEs.

ACE Hot Rod

These bikes were painted by Damon's who came up with the idea of ghosting in the different playing card logos on the rear fenders. Denny first attacked the Ace Hot Rod, and the other versions of the bikes, like it was going to be his. He loved the mean look and stance. The customized tank was mounted with a flush gas cap, pounded, shaped and dished the sides. Berg molded the frame and used a road race front fender. It was then equipped with Performance Machine wheels, and a set of Honda CBR forks.

Next in line was the Cobra "ACE of Diamonds." This was to be an ACE model with a custom Bagger styling treatment. When built, the Cobra ACE Bagger was ahead of its time. In the years to follow its 1996 debut, baggers have become more and more popular. Denny utilized a filled and smooth stock Honda ACE frame, and then fabricated the rear fender and the bags as one piece. Further junkyard scrounging by Denny produced a modified Honda VFR fairing used to create the bagger look he was after.

The Cobra ACE Oldie was fabricated by Denny Berg and was patterned after the popular basic cruiser style. From its super wide "Beach Bars" to its Harley-styled fenders, the low and mean Cobra Oldie is to this day a popular cruiser ride. Denny utilized the stock Honda controls that are polished chrome. The fenders are a Cobra Special Projects Division units patterned after a Harley design. Denny managed to get the bike very low to the ground yet it utilizes a stock frame.

To round out Cobra's collection of custom Honda ACE models, Ken Boyko and Berg set out to build a radical Chopper version of a stock Honda. And most critics say they succeeded. Starting with its high Ape Hanger bars to its Suzuki taillight, the ACE of Hearts is one mean ride. Custom-designed Cobra Fish Tail pipes add to the Chopper's bold lines. What started as a stock frame, was given five more degrees of rake, while stock Cobra forward controls and a classic tall sissy bar all contribute to this wild machine.

The state of California considers aftermarket exhaust systems to be legal replacement parts for non-catalyst equipped motorcycles and/or if slip-on mufflers are installed downstream of the OEM catalysts.

California does not allow the use of aftermarket systems that remove original equipment catalysts, (except for racing use only) unless the Air Resources Board has issued an Executive Order for that system.
